Japanese Bilingual program

In 2010, as part of the NSW Department of Education Bilingual Schools Program, a Japanese bilingual language program was introduced at Murray Farm Public School.

Students enrolled in the program receive 300 minutes of Japanese instruction per week, during which time students learn to read, write, speak and understand the Japanese language.

Additionally, students undertake the Learning Areas of Science and Technology and Creative Arts in Japanese.

Currently, more than 300 students participate in the Bilingual Program under the care of 4 full-time Japanese teachers and 1 part-time teacher.

Japanese teachers work alongside classroom teachers in a team-teaching setting to ensure that learning outcomes for all Learning Areas are being met.

Enrolments in the Bilingual Program are optional and are left to parent discretion. Students not enrolled in the Bilingual Program are offered 40 minutes of Japanese in a separate Language other than English (LOTE) program.
