Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

We have physical activity programs for children from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a focus on fundamental movement skills. External companies provide support for students to develop sporting skills and support staff at Murray Farm Public School. Sports in Schools Australia is currently a part of our program.

Sport and physical activity is a valued and accepted part of our school's curriculum, contributing to the development of the whole child. It provides a vehicle for social, physical, emotional and moral learning and is an important expression of our culture.

The participation, enjoyment and skill development of our students is the corner-stone of the school sport/ physical activity program. All our students take part in this program.

There are also opportunities to represent our school at inter-school sports competitions. As a NSW public school we benefit from the opportunities for shared activities and competitions with other schools, coordinated by school sport associations. See the School Sport Unit website for details.

School Sport

Years 3-6

School sport houses are:

Garth (Gold), Atholl (Red), Mansfield (Blue), Scone (Green)

Sports houses are named after significant influences for the Murray Clan, with Andrew Murray being the grant recipient of the land on which Murray Farm Public School is built.

Students participate in organised sport throughout the year. Sports conducted at school vary from year to year but may include:

Newcombe Ball (a modified volleyball game), Netball, Soccer, Touch, Softball, T-ball, Basketball and a variety of modified games to keep the students active and engaged. 3 major carnivals are held each year and students represent their house in Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country events.

We participate in Castle Hill Zone carnivals, as well as weekly inter-school sporting opportunities in Soccer, Netball, AFL and Newcombe Ball as part of the Winter PSSA season in Terms 2 and 3.

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2

The students in Kindergarten to Year 2 are involved in skill development programs. Students take part, at varying times, in Gross Motor activities. They also participate in Aerobics, Dance, Jogging and Games Circuits to use the skills being taught.

The success of the Gross Motor program is dependent on parent volunteers who assist the class teacher to supervise the activities.
