Encouraging your children to read

  • Reading should be fun and then it will be rewarding.
  • Read to your children and with your children. Let them see you reading.
  • Take an interest – talk to them about books.Help younger children select books to read.Let them tell the story from the pictures.
  • Let them predict what might happen in a story.
  • Show that you value books and reading by visiting often our School Library and your local Public Library.
  • Encourage them to find and borrow items related to their interests.
  • Remember reading helps their communication skills.
  • Encourage them to read a variety of books as they offer an endless variety of language and ideas.

Circulation

All students and community borrowers have a borrowing card which is kept at school.

All borrowers need a cloth library bag clearly labelled with their name. Books need to be carried to and from school in a library bag. The library bag needs to be able to close— with a zip, a cord, velcro or similar. Plastic bags and grocery shopping bags are not acceptable.

Borrowing is available every day for a fortnightly loan period. Occasionally some high demand titles may be limited to a weekly loan. Returns are to be placed in the returns box unless otherwise specified.

The library is open for borrowing on each school day. Every student visits the Library once per week for a class lesson.

Borrowing limits

  • Kindergarten – 1 item of fiction and non-fiction (Terms 2 - 4)
  • Years 1 & 2 – 2 fiction & 2 non-fiction
  • Years 3 & 4—2 fiction & 2 non-fiction
  • Years 5 & 6—3 fiction & 3 non-fiction
  • Community borrowers—1 item

Library resources may be changed every day of the week. A library bag is required for all borrowing.

Holiday borrowing

Students and community borrowers may borrow over holidays except Christmas vacation.

Reserve

Items out on loan may be reserved. Students will be informed when available.

Renewals

Items on loan can be renewed on presentation of the item, except for reserved or high demand items.

Overdues

Lists of overdue items will be printed and distributed each term. Please return all overdue books promptly or contact the library staff if there is a problem.

Damage

If any items are damaged or found damaged please do not attempt to repair the item. Please show the damage to the library staff.

At all times books should be kept away from food and drink.
