Learning support

Murray Farm Public School offers a range of programs designed to support students in their day to day learning. These programs work alongside the learning that students undertake in their normal classroom and are delivered in consultation with classroom and executive teachers.

Language Other Than English

The school offers students the opportunity to learn a second language through Languages-Other-Than-English (LOTE) programs. Currently, the school offers LOTE classes in Japanese for Kindergarten to Year 6.

In addition to this, as part of a pilot program exploring the benefits of Bilingual teaching, the school offers students in Kindergarten to Year 6 the opportunity to explore content in English and Japanese. Students in the Bilingual classes undertake various subjects across the curriculum in both languages, supported by the Japanese language teachers at the school.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect

English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) students are those learners who come from language backgrounds other than English; learners who are learning English as a second or additional language as well as developing literacy skills in English. Special attention is also given to new arrivals from overseas in order that their transition to school in Australia is supported linguistically, socially and more generally.

The main aim of the EAL/D teacher is to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding to interact positively and participate in a multicultural society.

Gifted & Talented

Children from Year 1 to Year 6 are identified by a range of measures as having high potential for achievement in enrichment programs covering a range of disciplines.

The group meets once a week during class time where they are provided with opportunities to enrich their knowledge, understanding and competence where they have demonstrated ability and interest.

Information technology

Computer based technologies provide an invaluable educational resource to our children to improve their learning outcomes in all key learning areas.

From Kindergarten to Year 6, all students at Murray Farm participate in activities that assist in the development of their ability to:

  • explore technological challenges to develop confidence;
  • use computer based technologies to find, evaluate, store and retrieve information;
  • communicate with others through technology.
