Student health and safety

We are committed to ensuring a safe and happy environment for your child.

We support your child’s health and safety through a range of strategies including:

For more information, visit the student wellbeing section of the department’s website.

Like all NSW public schools, we promote the healthy development of students through:

  • school programs and practices that protect and promote health and safety
  • supporting individual students who need help with health issues
  • providing first aid and temporary care of students who become unwell or who have an accident at school.

Student wellbeing

Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.

The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.

The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.

Play leaders

is a playground leadership program designed to empower students to drive the changes that they want to see to make the playground more active and inclusive for everyone. The program aims to increase participation and engage younger students in various activities, reduce the incidence of playground bullying and to provide leadership opportunity. Over the course of the school year, students develop the motivation, resilience and self-confidence to run lunch time activities and at the same time evolve into passionate peer leaders. Students become aware of the powerful role they can play in inspiring and developing our future leaders.

House Captain

Further leadership opportunities include house sport captains, who play an important role in the running of sports carnivals and assemblies. Each school house has one boy and one girl captain as well as respective vice captains. This year the house sport captains have taken on new responsibilities around the playground, assisting the teachers with their duty bags and ensuring all sport equipment is handled with care and returned to the correct place.

Student Representive Council (SRC)

The SRC has been an integral part of Murray Farm Public School for over 20 years. It has given students the opportunity to take on leadership roles throughout the school, planning and organising class-based initiatives, as well as whole school and community events. The leadership and learning opportunities offered to students at Murray Farm through the SRC is part of the school’s strategic direction to empower students to develop resilience, perseverance and confidence. The SRC is comprised of one student from every class in Years 2-6, as well as an executive team of captains and prefects. A major focus for the SRC in the past two years has been creating and nurturing a safe play environment during recess and lunch. During these times, representatives known as florescent friends walk around the playground keeping an eye out for lonely or lost students. The florescent friends have been a great success in the playground with students being helped every day.
